For the most part, inside the ring or "on the microphone in front of a camera, Shawn is the same guy that he is away from it. When he has his mind set on something, he will do whatever it takes to get it done. And his goal is to be the best damn wrestler to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots, a goal he fully intends to meet.
Background: July 4th 1968 Shawn Andrews was brought into the world at Dallas General Hospital. He was the very first child born of Raymond and Melanie Andrews. Raymond Andrews was a standout college football player at The Ohio State University and was drafted by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, however a freak bus accident on his way to his first training camp crushed his knees and ended his professional football career before he had even played a game. Raymond stayed in the Dallas area and brought his college girlfriend down to live with him. Raymond became an assistant coach with the Sam Houston High Football team and began coaching Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball.
Raymond Andrews had a dream for his sons, a dream to make them into star athletes. Barely out of the womb, young Shawn was already on a rigorous training schedule. At the age of 9 he was playing little league and pee wee football. Before he even made it to High School he was already being scouted by many top colleges and some professional Baseball teams. Shawn became an all-American athlete excelling in Basketball, Football, Wrestling and Track and Field. His Fathers constant pressure on his son to succeed and his drinking problem put a strain on his Mom and during Shawn's sophomore year in High School his parents divorced. Shawn's mom, Melanie and his younger brother Tom moved back to Melanie's hometown Cleveland, OH while Shawn stayed in Dallas with his father.
As a child Shawn had grown up watching Texas Championship Wrestling on channel 12 out of Fort Worth. He was enthralled by the exploits of "The Texas Legend" Bobby Starr, The Wrangler and especially "Crazy" Mike Duncan. On his 14th Birthday he watched Bobby Duncan bust open an opponent with a set of brass knuckles and later in the evening saw Bobby Starr claim his 6th Texas Heavyweight Title. On that night young Shawn knew what his calling was, he wanted to be a pro wrestler, not just any wrestler, but a Regulator.
Raymond ridiculed his son's obsession with Pro Wrestling and most of the time Shawn had to sneak around with the TV turned down low. Shawn's father didn't consider 'rasslin a sport and used to tell his son's "If it ain't football, it ain't shit'.During Shawn's senior year in High School his father died as a result of a drinking and driving. Since he was 18 Shawn lived at home alone, where he himself had begun heavy drinking. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the rule 4 draft and signed a minor league contract with them, thinking he would be able to be closer to his Mother and Brother while making money as a baseball player. After a year playing for the Indians Rookie League team in Kinston Georgia, Shawn decided that Baseball was not for him, he still had four years of college eligibility for football, so he went to play for the University of Texas.
Shawn was red shirted his freshman year, to keep active since he was a start wrestler in High School he tried out for the UT wrestling team. During his time there he became the most decorated collegiate wrestler in school history and one of the top NCAA collegiate wrestlers of all time. He won many titles for his weight class. During his sophomore through senior seasons Shawn became the best defensive back in school history. However his tendency for partying soon would prove to be his downfall.
Since he played a year of minor league baseball and was red shirted his freshman year, by the time he finally graduated with his degree in communications, Shawn was 25. He was a highly touted prospect for the NFL draft and many draft experts predicted him to be a top round pick. However, an accident at a frat party where he was heavily intoxicated and pushed another student down a third floor balcony during a fight severely hurt his draft status. Thanks to testimony from his friends, the charges against him were dropped from manslaughter to drunken disorderly conduct, because his actions were ruled to be in self-defense. Due to the incident however he was not drafted and signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The incident also caused him to be left off the 1992 US Olympic wrestling team.
The party scene proved to be too much for Shawn, as he was cut midway through the year after punching coach Jimmy Johnson when he was fined for missing team meetings and various altercations at local nightspots. He spent some time working as a bouncer in Dallas bars and then got his break as a roadie/body guard for the Heavy Metal band Pantera. He spent a couple years on the road with Pantera, but athletic competition was still his life calling. He had a try out with the GWI of Chicago, the promotion in which NAWA superstars Nick Cyprus and Nighthawk made famous, but his penchant for drinking ruined his chances.
That is when he was drawn into the underground world of illegal shoot fighting. He quickly became one of the top competitors in the circuit and was fighting all across the globe. During a fight in New Zealand, Shawn would not let up and killed his opponent. He spent a year locked up in a New Zealand prison until with help from the U.S Embassy he was cleared of all charges and allowed to return home. Upon returning home to America, Shawn went to Cleveland to spend some time with his younger brother. Their mother had dies while Shawn was in the New Zealand prison.
Shawn's younger brother at this time was a prominent Cleveland area tattooist and the guitarist for a local heavy metal band that featured the future NAWA Heavyweight Champion Rex Raddington. During Shawn's time in Cleveland he became very good friends with Rex and introduced him into the underground word of shoot fighting. It was Shawn who took Rex to his first GWI show, where they saw "Hardcore" Nick Cyprus in action and Rex got the wrestling bug forever.
Upon seeing the rising stardom of his good buddy Rex, Shawn got jealous, cleaned up his act and enrolled himself in the TCW wrestling school in Moon Creek TX. During the next couple of years he became a part time instructor at the TCW school while gaining major stardom in the UFC. In September of 1998 he signed a contract with the EAWC in Japan.
Rex offered to put in a word for Shawn with NAWA President Jonathan Paris, knowing how much Shawn wanted to join. But Shawn wanted to do things on his own terms, he ended up where he continued a career of becoming one of the countries favorite American Wrestlers and two time winner of king of the death match tournaments. It's is in Japan where he was given the nickname, Kyoujin, the Hardcore Madman.
In July, 2000 Shawn signed a NAWA development deal through the GWI. However at this time he was having serious thoughts about giving up wrestling after watching his good friend Jacob Starr receive a career ending injury at Japans Super Junior Heavyweight Tournament. After a few weeks of soul searching and a conversation with Jacob and his father "The Texas Legend" Bobby Starr Shawn decided to take his shot at the big time.
He went on in the NAWA to live out a childhood dream at the Lethal Lottery PPV on September 24. After losing a Tag Team Title match with his unlikely partner of TNT, he proceeded to lay the smackdown on the unsuspecting grappler. Luke Starr and Troy Dallas came out to help and the New Regulators were born. The 2000 version of the Regulators quickly became the #1 stable in the NAWA. With Los Vaqueros (Troy Dallas and Luke Starr) winning the NAWA American TAg Team Titles and then unifying them with the NAWA World Tag Team Titles. Shawn would go on to become NAWA HArdcore Champion and then have a feud of epic proportions with "Hard Core" Nick Cyprus.
Shawn took the first leg of the feud, in the Long Walk Through Hell (a series of three brutal gimmick matches) at the NAWA's Season's Beatings PPV 2-1. The following month Shawn and Nick would face the NAWA World Heavyweight Champion Nebula in a Triple Threat match for the World Title. With Nick Cyprus coming out on top. Two weeks later in a match against Cyprus for the Title, in Shawn's very own home town, he was sneak attacked by Nebula's brother and Stablemate Napalm, costing him his chance at the title.
The following month in Kansas City's Kemper arena, at the second annual NAWA: No Love Lost PPV extravaganza. Shawn Andrews faced Napalm in a career versus mask grudge match. The match ended in a draw, but later on in the show Shawn recieved a phone call from manager Bobby Starr, asking Shawn for some help dealing with Akira Yoshi and his 'boys' in Japan. Shawn quickly packed his bags and headed out to Japan to help Jake Starr in the EAWC.
In March of the same year while fighting singles, instead of tagging with his fellow Regulator Jake Starr, Shawn won the EAWC World Heavyweight Championship at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. He however would not hold on to the belt for very long as at The World Wrestling Alliance's very first edition of Worldwide, Shawn made an unexpected appearence and helped Troy Dallas unmask Napalm. Also he "threw away" the EAWC World Heavyweight Championship, leaving the wrestling world and headed out to film his supporting role in the major motion picture Pit Fighter 2: Eye for an Eye.
His supporting role in The summer blockbuster hit, would lead to a starring role in the Independent Prision drama Redemption Song as well as the Starring Role in Pit Fighter 3: Bloodlines. However after taking the months of to film the movies and heeling his body from the abuse it has taken, Shawn decided it was once again time to return to his true passion. The Squared Circle.
His amateur technical background combined with his shoot fighting skill make him an all round tough opponent to face. He has a cocky ftw attitude, but his mouth never writes a check that his fists don't intend on cashing. Let God have mercy on whoever has to cross the revolution's path.
Appearance: For most of his wrestling career Shawn has been known by his flowing, if not sometimes messy and bloodstained long brown hair, and the tattoos that cover his arms and body. Now ever since shaving his head, for his role in the motion picture Pit Fighter 2, he has decided to keep the bald look. Which gives him much more of a menacing appearance. Both his arms are covered by tattoos, most noticeable are the flames that run up each wrist. He is extremely well tones and has barely any body fat at all.
Ring Attire: Shawn Andrews dresses in the ring, the same way he dresses out side of it for the most part. Usually a pair of faded blue or black jeans, and a tee shirt and Black Steel Toed Boots.
